Joe Carlin, Managing Partner

• Joe spent 20 years as an Executive with IBM and Bell+Howell in North Carolina, New York and London.  He subsequently served as Vice President or President for several start-up companies, including his own real estate and investment management company.
• At IBM, he managed a $2 billion portfolio of 400 networking software products, was considered an expert in software finances and pricing, and led an international team in creating the Strategic and Operating Plans for the $8 billion Networking Division.
• At Bell+Howell, Joe was Director of Finance, Director of Marketing and Director of Strategy; setting the financial, marketing and strategic direction for a $500 million global business.
• While at IBM and Bell+Howell, Joe saved both companies money by implementing cost saving process and system changes using process improvement methods.  He also created numerous financial models to define and monitor the key business metrics.  Joe directly advised senior executives at each company on a daily basis, beginning at age 32. 
• In addition to his consulting practice, Joe manages a diversified portfolio of over $10 million of stock, real estate, loan, venture capital and private equity holdings for a small group of individuals.

Joe has a B.A. in English and an MBA in Finance from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.  Joe was a 4 year soccer letterman at William and Mary.  He is currently President of the Triangle Area Chapter of the William & Mary Alumni.  He is also responsible for the Good $ense Financial Ministry at Hope Community Church.  He was recently featured in the 2006 Amgen Annual Report and serves as a volunteer with their Vibrant Lives program. His other interests include Photography, Genealogy, and Traveling.
